Hi Patti.

Joe here from the County Of Los Angeles Fire Museum.

Engine 51 is tucked neatly in the museum next to Squad 51 and the Crown Engine 51.

We will start a capitol campaign next year to raise the funds to restore the Ward.

Take care and please feel free to post the attached picture...(above dated 12-18-08)

Joe.

                             MORE NEWS ON ENGINE 51
She moved back to California's L.A. area on August 8th, 2008
after serving 21 years active duty for Yosemite National Park.
The following account by Kelly, a geologist working Yosemite.

I do know that there are a lot of fans of Emergency! on this board. She is getting set to retire in a couple of weeks and she will be missed by all.

I do not serve active fire duty up here.

I remember coming up to Yosemite the first time on  a geology field trip.
It was 1991, and this particular trip is the one that was responsible for
changing my major to geology. But I think one of the things I remembered
from that trip was learning that the volunteer fire department in Yosemite
uses THE Engine 51 from the show Emergency! The first time I worked
up here, which was the summer of 92, is when I learned that Engine 7
is actually THE Engine 51. I live behind the station where she currently
resides. On good weather days, they usually pull her out, since she's the
local celebrity.

I was a fan of the show, and I was excited that a piece
of television history made Yosemite its home.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE LATE SUMMER OF 2008.

I found out today  that she's leaving in a couple of weeks
and I will find out the exact day. She is being reunited with the squad.

She is getting ready to be moved to the LA County Fire Department
Museum where she will be reunited with Squad 51 once again. The day
she leaves will be a sad day for me. Like  I said, I've been a fan of the
show since I was a young child, and know several people who became
firemen and paramedics because of the show.
I've lived up here full-time since 1995. I've seen
Engine 51 drive around the valley, sometimes right
past my home. I've watched her parked while the
crew guides in helicopters.
I've seen her at  work during the New Year flood
of 1997.
I've taken some pictures of Engine 51 that I wish
to share. I will post those in a bit.
I've also included some links to sites dedicated to Emergency!, and
some about Engine 51's life in Yosemite.

Yes folks! I'm back in the park. I've been back for a
while, but I'm now just getting around to updating you on the
status of Engine 51.

First off, I'd like to thank
Emergency Theater Live for the article
from the Fresno Bee! (below) I haven't been in the park for about a month.

I  was going to ComicCon.

Okay, she is still here. I'm guessing there is a reason for this,
and it's because of the fires in the area. The power is sporatic
and one of the generators at Yosemite Lodge caught on fire yesterday.

I can't wait for her to finally be reunited with the squad and get
her numbers back on her like they were on the show. My daughter,

who was more saddened  at Engine 51 leaving, was thrilled when I
told her that we will go visit her when she gets into the   museum and
gets her numbers back. So, it's all good.

Still, I haven't been told the date of when she's leaving. I ask
all the time. And once I find out, I will let you all know.

I didn't find out until about an hour ago, but
Engine 51  is leaving tomorrow.

She is on a flatbed truck owned by Los Angeles
County Fire Dept as I type this. She will be heading
to a brand new museum, to be reunited with the
squad and the first Engine 51.
I'm sorry this is so soon, but I just found out about this myself. I would have liked a week's warning, but at least I did find out for all you fans of Emergency!
These last three are of my daughter. She's
crying because of Engine 51 leaving.

Hello Patti,

Yes its true....Engine 51 (the Ward) is in our museum parked nicely
next to squad 51. We will be completing a minor restoration as we figure
out the best marketing plan to generate the necessary funds to restore
the engine the way she needs to be restored.
Take care and watch our web site.

We will not be starting the restoration for some time but when we do it should take about a year.

The Ward now sits next to Squad 51 and the original
Engine 51. We plan on having an open house sometime in November to officially welcome  the Ward home.

Thanks for the link and the interest.

Paul
I posted some more pictures of her (Engine 51) on the flatbed for those interested.
